Is fun and innovative powered wheelchair designed specifically for children under six. Even those as young as 14 months can operate its simple controls, allowing them to zip around with their peers, developing spatial awareness, social interaction and independence. It can be used indoors and out of doors in accessible areas such as level gardens, playgrounds and parks, enabling children to enjoy the experience of mobility with their “first wheels”.

The Wizzybug addresses the needs of children with conditions such as cerebral palsy, spinal muscular atrophy, spine bifida and muscular dystrophy.

Why do children need a Wizzybug?

There are many children under 5 in CANADA who have a health condition or disability which limits their mobility.

Conditions such as cerebral palsy, spinal muscular atrophy, Spina bifida and muscular dystrophy can leave children unable to walk and interact easily with others their own age.

How can Wizzybug be used?

Wizzybug is an electrically powered wheelchair for indoor and outdoor use, with adult supervision.

Children use Wizzybugs at home and at pre-school, and in outdoor spaces such as parks, gardens and playgrounds.

Wizzybug can be used every day or just occasionally, but is not intended to be used all day, every day.

How often do I need to charge the batteries on the Wizzybug chair?

How often you need to charge the batteries for your power chair is determined by how often you use it. If you use your product daily, charge its batteries as soon as you finish using it for the day. we recommend fully charging the batteries over night and turn the main power switch to off position, if you are not going to use the wizzybug. Refer to the user manual supplied with the wizzybug for charging instructions.

P.S. Remember to turn the lights off while Wizzybug is charging, and not to run the battery completely flat to avoid having to jump-start it later!

Is it possible to travel with Wizzy?

Wizzybug can be taken with you in the car, on public transport and also on a plane.

Wizzybug doesn’t have built-in hoisting points. Please put the brakes on when transporting Wizzy. It’s not safe for your child to be seated in Wizzybug while travelling in a car or on school transport.

Many Wizzybug families have flown with Wizzybug. You will need to ring the airline in advance and give Wizzybug dimensions and the battery type. The standard battery is a sealed lead-acid type battery.

Can Wizzybug be used in all weather conditions?

The joystick is shower-proof, so you can drive with Wizzybug through a light rain shower without worrying. Please find shelter if it rains heavily, or carry an emergency rain poncho with you!

Some families have managed to clamp a sun umbrella onto the Wizzybug metal parts for hot summer days. Please do not drill any holes into Wizzybug to fix additional accessories. Please do not leave Wizzybug inside a conservatory or uncovered in the boot of a car for any length of time on very hot days. This may cause the red Wizzybug body to expand slightly and then the seat fixture becomes loose.

Is there a forum for Wizzybug families to swap ideas and chat?

Yes, there is a closed Facebook Group for Wizzybug Canada. If your child already has a Wizzybug and you would like to join, please click on this link to request to join.

Is the WizzyBug Class I Medical Device?

Wizzybug is manufactured by the Bath Institute of Medical Engineering (trading as Designability ) and is a Class 1 medical device, registered with the MHRA.

Does the WizzyBug wheelchair increase my child’s mobility?

The WizzyBug wheelchairs provide your child with an optimal position in order to experience their surroundings better. In addition, it will give toddlers their first set of powered wheels to gain the freedom of movement.

Help! I’ve accidentally locked the Wizzybug, what do I do?

If you think you have accidentally locked Wizzybug (the lights flash backwards and forwards, then it beeps and turns off again), try unlocking by making sure Wizzybug is turned on at the back and front, if there is a flashing red key, swipe a magnet sideways over the control pad.
